Our students have won in the Associated Schools of Construction competition in America in a mixed Czech-American team!

Students Lenka Kejzarová and Šimon Hušák from the Architecture and Building Sciences study programme and Marek Baláž from the Management and Economics in Civil Engineering programme of the Faculty of Civil Engineering CTU in Prague participated in the international student competition organised by the Region 5 ASC – Associated Schools of Construction, of which our Faculty is also a member, held on 15th to 17th February 2025. This year´s competition took place directly in America. In a joint international team with students from the University of Oklahoma, our students won in the Design Build International category! The coaches of the Czech-American team were Ing. Martin Čásenský, CSc. from our Faculty and prof. Johnny Gaffney from the University of Oklahoma.

The principle of the competition is to develop an architectural design and construction preparation for a project, including a budget, based on a real project specification.

This year, the contestants had to design the Captain M. Webb Center sports complex in Dallas, Texas, which included an outdoor playground, indoor basketball court, gymnasiums and a swimming pool. The students had to manage the assignment, which was equivalent to a term project in difficulty, within 16 hours. For the project defence, the team moved from the assignment site in Oklahoma to Dallas, where the defence was held at the Hurst Conference Center before a panel of experts who had prepared the project.

Approximately 250 students in about 40 teams participated in the Region 5 ASC competition, which includes schools from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas and the TEXO organisation. They competed in the Concrete Solutions, Heavy Civil Construction, Commercial Construction and Design Build categories. The Commercial Construction and Design Build categories were further split into 4 other divisions, one of which was the Design Build International category, which was won by our students competing in a mixed team with students from the University of Oklahoma.

Our sincere congratulations to the winning team!

Our students´ trip to the USA could happen thanks to the sponsorship support of ATIP, EXCON and Ing. Vladimír Janata from EXCON.
